Ten years of One Direction

Today has been a really important date in the music calendar. Today we are celebrating ten years of One Direction.

It officially has been a decade since the band was formed by the X- Factor UK judging panel but really it was by destiny. Despite not winning the singing talent show, ten years later One Direction have four number one albums, four U.K. number one singles with over 21 billion streams across all platforms. Safe to say they went on to form a successful career for themselves despite not winning.

Not only in the band, each music artist has went on to have their own individual success as solo artists. Since the bands hiatus in 2016, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Niall Horan have carved out a very successful career despite taking different paths.

On top of their individual chart success, these boys have hit the news for other reasons too during the last ten years. Harry starred in an award-winning Hollywood blockbuster movie with ‘Dunkirk’, Louis went full circle by becoming an X-Factor UK judge in 2018, Liam had a baby named Bear with pop icon Cheryl who was a judge on their season, Niall has became an Irish icon and Zayn is expecting a baby with his supermodel girlfriend Gigi Hadid

Today is a special occasion for all directioners worldwide , it was announced earlier this month today would be the launch of a new website dedicated to the band including a celebration video made for their fans.

Sadly a reunion of any sort was not announced (as of yet) but there has been an announcement made about the remastering of their famous music videos which will now be available in incredible 4K quality.

All members of One Direction except Zayn Malik (at this moment in time) have paid tribute to the fans and shared special memories of their time in the band and how it has changed their lives.

We thank One Direction for an incredible ten years of great music, excellent entertainment and incredible talent. We have loved every moment of it.

Kylie Minogue

Today we were treated with a new single from pop royalty Kylie Minogue too with ‘Say Something’. A disco oriented dance-floor filler was first played on BBC Radio2 with Zoe Ball this morning.

This single is apart of Kylie’s new album titled ‘Disco’ so the leading single is very fitting to the theme. Kylie fans are being gifted with 16 track long album for Kylie’s fifteenth studio album. It is official, Kylie is here to bring us into a new era of disco dancing in the 21st century.

During her interview with BBC Radio2 Kylie explained the meaning behind the single ‘Say Something’. This is what she had to say:

‘It’s like a galactic disco. I think this song is about all of our eternal quests for love and the searching and the knowing there’s someone out there’

Kylie talking about her new single ‘Say Something’ on BBC Radio2 this morning.

Available to download and buy on November 6th 2020 You can pre-order Kylie’s new album ‘Disco’ by clicking here.

Taylor Swift

Then if that was not enough excitement for one day, Taylor Swift made a shock announcement that at midnight she will be releasing her eighth studio album titled ‘Folklore’.

This album will also have 16 songs all available to download or buy tomorrow. All the songs on this album were written and produced during isolation throughout the COVID-19 pandemic because of her rare availability. One of these events Taylor should be performing in this year would have been her headline slot on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury. This would have been the 50th anniversary of the monumental event but sadly it was cancelled this year due to the worldwide pandemic.

Taylor made the official announcements on her social media accounts today stating that she has:

‘poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, mandamusing into’ (Folklore)

Taylor Swift describing her new album on Twitter

There will also be a new single from the album being released at midnight. Titled ‘Caridgan’, the song was not only written but the music video was directed by Taylor herself. Here is Taylor announcing the single on Twitter:

There is a lot of excitement and buzz surrounding the Swifties fandom for this album to be released. This surprise album release news also means for the first time since 2008, pop fans are getting an album by Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry in the same year with their releases of Chromatica, Folklore and Smile.

2020 really is the year pop music has helped us more than ever.

Amy Winehouse

Lastly Proudly wanted to talk about the icon that is Amy Winehouse.

Sadly today was also the nine-year anniversary since the tragic passing of Amy Winehouse in 2011. An incredibly gifted music artist who was like no other before her and will remain a once in a lifetime talent. Since shooting to super stardom following her 2004 critically accliamed album Frank, Amy went on to become one of the biggest names in music. With career hit singles such as: Back To Black, Valerie, Rehab, Tears Dry On Their Own and You Know I’m No Good.

Amy’s album Back to Black had international chart success in the United States with the lead single of the album “Rehab” was named Time magazine’s Best Song of 2007.

Amy’s music will stand the test of time and today is a day we remember a true talent that has been lost, we will never forget you Amy.

Tributes have poured out for the singer including a really emotional tweet from Amy’s mother Janis:

Janis Winehouse shared a photo of Amy’s former Christian Louboutin heels next to a candle

Amy’s father Mitch also put a tribute out to Amy on his Instagram page:

Here is a few more tributes to Amy, we will always miss your unique talent, originality and your voice of an angel. Amy you will forever be a once in a lifetime talent. There will never be another Amy Winehouse. Rip x

There also is an Amy Winehouse Foundation set up to help thousands of vulnerable and disadvantaged young people. founded by Amy’s family the foundation works with other charitable organisations to provide frontline support for these young people in need. Famous faces such as Jon SnowMark Ronson and Barbara Windsor are patrons for the charity.

We shall always remember the impact you made on the music industry and so many young peoples lives forever Amy. Thank you for everything x
